Day 04 -Mar del Plata
We will go on a private full-day excursion with bilingual guide to “Laguna, Sierras de los Padres, and Balcarce”. It includes “Visit to Fangio Museum”. First, we will visit "Laguna y Sierras de los Padres" (Fathers´ Lagoon and Hill). In the middle of the 18th century, the Jesuits settled down in the currentlyknown as Laguna de los Padres where a chapel with bedrooms and good storehouses were built. Jesuits achieved a rewarding work: they formed a small indigenous village. Nowadays, in Laguna de los Padres there is a reproduction of that Jesuitic village where historical documents are displayed. Then, we will visit José Hernandez’s Museum. He was the poet who made the Argentinean gaucho a mythical character through his famous book "Martín Fierro". He had his first contact with the countryside and the “gaucho” activities when he was living in his aunt and uncle where nowadays this museum is located. The landscape of small cultivated hills, diverse farms and small ranches show us the way to Sierra de los Padres, where we will discover a residential neighbourhood, restaurants, handicrafts stores, a golf club, and a “pulpería” (former meeting place for the gaucho at sunset). After that, we will visit “Balcarce and Fangio Museum”. Balcarce town is framed within a landscape of hills, farms, and folklore. It is the most important potato center in the country and home town of the quintuple international motoring champion, Juan Manuel Fangio. The agricultural and cattle-raising activity concentrates historical and contemporary ranches. Furthermore, we will find an outstanding research center (INTA), the satellite communication earth station; and we will go past some quarries which provide the city with the famous stone used in construction. The most attractive place in town is the Motor Museum, which was donated by the great champion and where Fangio has gathered all his prizes, cars, his history, and the history of his friends. We will also visit Juan Manuel Fangio motor racing circuit, his parents´ home, and the garage where he started to discover the secrets of mechanics and where his passion for motoring started to develop. Lunch is included at “El Casco” Ranch or a similar one, including starter, main course, dessert, coffee or tea and soda or juice, mineral water or a beer. Return to Mar del Plata. It includes entry passes to “José Hernandez Museum" and "Fangio Museum".
