Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires 03
6 Days / 5 Nights

Day 01 - Buenos Aires
Reception at the airport and private transportation service to the chosen hotel with bilingual guide. In the afternoon, we will enjoy the “Tango Tour: Tango as a Porteño Cultural Symbol” excursion in a private service with a bilingual guide expert in Tango History. We will start our visit to the suburb of old Buenos Aires, where the city bordered the countryside. We will continue to La Boca, harbor area neighborhood of working class people, where most of the Genoese immigrants settled down at the end of 19th century. There, we will visit one of its typical “conventillos”, tenement houses where numerous families lived; they had different origins but the same reality: Poverty. Tango was growing, from slums to downtown; first, thanks to traditional theater; then, thanks to the birth of radio. Thus, tango started to enjoy a tremendous popularity, until it disembarked in Corrientes Street, site of the main musical shows, named “the street that never sleeps” due to its frantic activity. Since then, tango is considered the “porteño” cultural symbol par excellence. After walking round Corrientes Street, we will visit the Palais de Glace, an elegant hall where high-class people started to dance tango; thanks to them Tango reached Europe. The definitive internationalization of tango took place when Carlos Gardel, the greatest tango singer ever, took it to the big screen of Hollywood. Finally, we will visit Abasto, birthplace of Carlos Gardel. Formerly a slum, then one of the “rebellious” neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, today it seems to resist the efforts that have been done (the construction of Abasto Shopping and the setting up of international hotels in the area) to integrate it to the mainstream tourist circuit. This neighborhood, site of numerous “milongas” where the most authentic tango is danced, still keeps its traditional personality. We will visit the house where Carlos Gardel lived, recently declared National Historic Patrimony. At night, "Dinner and Tango Show with VIP Menu" at the tango house chosen, "Carlos Gardel´s Corner", “Gala Tango”, "La Ventana", “Madero Tango”, "Piazzolla Tango" or "Viejo Almacén", including hotel/show/hotel private transportation service with bilingual guide. The famous nightlife of Buenos Aires offered to its own people and to those who visit the city features innumerable gastronomic and artistic options. You will enjoy the magic and the charm of Tango, the protagonist of the night! It includes dinner with VIP Menu with starter, main course, dessert, soda or mineral water, a bottle of wine per person, coffee or tea, a glass of champagne. Accommodation.

We will be amazed at the zinc-sheet houses painted in bright colors, Caminito Street, and the football stadium Boca Juniors, Maradona´s sports cradle. We continue to San Telmo, site chosen by the “porteño” aristocracy until 1871, walking through its cobbled streets, stopping at the traditional Dorrego Square where visitors can buy from first-class antiques to second-hand magazines and records. The next stop is Mayo Avenue. It was inaugurated in 1894 and it joins Mayo Square with the Congress; on both sides, it has amazing buildings in Art Nouveau and Art Déco styles. It was mainly populated by Spanish immigrants who set up numerous cafes, restaurants, as well as the Avenida Theater. We will enjoy lunch at the mythical Tortoni Cafe, traditionally frequented by artists and intellectual people. Around the Cathedral, we will admire the splendid mansions that in the Argentinean golden years were the weekend residencies of the “porteño” elite, such as Anchorena House (today, San Juan el Precursor School) and Pueyrredón House, pompeian-style building from 1790 where a museum is currently working. Finally, we will go down the viewpoint of the Río de la Plata which will amaze us for its immensity. We will move to Tigre city, located in the mouth of the Paraná River Delta.
